Snakes and Snails and Puppy Dog Tails

Kate has decided that Jack is already acting very much like a boy. Her evidence? He farts and burps a lot and does not like to have his face washed. (Well, there is also an obsession with boobs, but that is understandable for any nursing baby.) Now you may be saying to yourself, "Self, a lot of babies burp and have gas. Why are Joe and Kate making a big deal out of this?" And I would have to answer that these are not burps and cute little passings of gas. These are full-blown belches (think Barney on The Simpsons) and and farts (think about the bean-eating scene from Blazing Saddles). These farts are so loud that if he is in the other room, they causes feedback on the baby monitor.

When he starts scratching himself and eating cold pizza for breakfast, we know we are in trouble.

!!Breaking News!! As I am typing this, Kate is experiencing one of the most...adventuresome diaper changes ever. Not only has he peed on himself, but he just spit up and pooped on Kate. Now that is multitasking! (We now return you to your regularly scheduled blog.)

One of my favorite rituals with Jack happens on the mornings of my days off. He is usually wide awake after his 5:30 (ish) feeding in the morning for a while before he falls back to sleep. So Kate is generally up for the day way earlier than she would like to be. Being the good husband that I am (and being that I usually get up at 4:00 am on workdays) I take Jack after this morning feeding and we head downstairs to the couch and watch a movie or snooze. Kate felt compelled to take a picture of this Daddy-Baby Boy bonding time the other morning, so here it is. As you can see, Jack is quite the little snuggle bunny.

And here is a (rare) picture of Jack actually enjoying Tummy Time. This is supposed to help him build his neck, arm, and leg strength so that he can eventually crawl. He is already holding his head up for long periods of time. And the little booger is already scooting around in his crib. There have been a couple of times when we have went in to get him and he has scooted down (never up) to a different part of the crib.
