Just a Couple of Gamelan Pictures

I played in a performance of a Wayang Sandosa with a story from the Ramayana on Sunday, and it went pretty well. (Yeah, I screwed up a lot.) If you are asking yourself, what the Hell is a Wayang Sandosa, just imagine Javanese dancing, shadow puppets, and a gamelan. If you don't know what any of those things are like, do a Google search. I have included some pictures for those of you that are always confused when I start talking about gamelan. Unfortunately, I forgot to have someone take my picture of me looking like, as Charley Sullivan (one of the dancers in the performance) so lovingly phrased it, "Mini-me in Javanese drag."

While I managed to escape the actual concert without playing the Gong, I did have to fill in during most of the rehearsals on Saturday and Sunday. I think the Gong arranges it so I have to play it. It misses me.
Here is what I actually played for the concert. It is called a Demung in case you are interested. (And in case you are really interested, that is the back of Yona's curly head.)
Here is the beginning gamelan rehearsing, so you can kind of get an idea about what a Wayang Sandosa entails.

Ooh, I couldn't do that. Sitting on the floor on a pillow would KILL my back these days.

Wait, who am I kidding? SITTING kills my back these days.

It's not exactly friendly on my back, and I am not even pregnant. (I had to add this last bit in case anybody thought there was a chance I may be expecting and not just gaining weight.)
