Notes and Pictures from our Cruise, Pt. 1

Sunrise from the big boat.

Well, we survived a whole five days without seeing Jack. It was tough, but managed to have a wonderful time on our cruise, despite his absence. We are very glad we took the vacation (without him), but we probably will not be leaving him behind again for a very long time.
As for the cruise, it was pretty amazing. I do not think we will be the type that cruise multiple times a year--as many people apparently do--but we will definitely do it again. We "sailed" (they still say sail, despite the rather obvious lack of said sails) from Miami last Monday ,with stops in Key West and the Cayman Islands, on the Celebrity Century. Apparently, Celebrity is known for their food and service, and we saw why as both were outstanding. Even the room attendants took good care of us despite being on the lowest level with the livestock and drunken Irishmen. (See Titanic)

I have a lot of stories to tell, so I will try to do them over the next couple of posts. (Be patient for news on this and news on Jack as blogging is low on the priority list at this time.) For now, here are a few pictures.

If you have ever been on a cruise, then you have had to take part in the safety drill, and you have to wear a life jacket. Here is Kate modeling hers. One of the important instructions they give you is to blow the whistle that is attached to the jacket so that rescuers can find you. Kate's was missing. (Note: due to us having an inside cabin with no windows and funky lighting, all of the pictures I took in our room have this bizarre yellow tint.)

Here is a picture of our boat (Watch as cruise aficionados cringe at me using this mundane word) docked at Key West. I do not know who the old guy is, but it does seem appropriate as most, but certainly not all, of our fellow passengers were quite a bit older than us. (More on this in a later post.)

We are afraid to see our next cell phone bill. Kate made sure to call Jack every day. The first time she called, Kate's mom handed him the phone and he hung up on her. He he he.

I did not get many pictures of the two of us. We tried getting formal pictures taken, but the Fiftieth Wedding Anniversary poses they put us in did not turn out nice enough to justify paying the exorbitant price they asked. You will just have to make due with this one taken in our room, complete with the jaundiced tint and flash-glare on my glasses.

Poor Kate had never been to a beach in her life. Never. (Well, she says she saw when in France in high school, but it was "cold and rocky.") Although Key West has crappy beaches, she was bound and determined to "feel the sand on her toes," as she put it. (We would go to a beach on Grand Caymen for a couple of hours two days later.) Her are her toes feeling beach sand for the first time. If you look to the right side of the picture, you can see that this particular beach seemed to be very popular with the local cats.

Sunset from the boat.
