E-i-e-i...e-i

Apparently, there is more to music than dancing.

Though we have been doing a semi-decent job of watching what we say around Jack (still no curse jar), I have not really paid much attention to the lyrics of the music I play around him. I guess I really need to now, because Jack is listening to the lyrics.

We discovered that he was actually listening to what was being sung in music over Memorial Day weekend in two different ways. We were riding in the car (big surprise), and I was listening to Sam Cooke. The song "Bring It On Home to Me" came on, and I thought Jack was dozing since he was so quiet. If you know the song, then you know that Sam and a deep-voiced backup singer exchange "Yeahs" quite frequently. After about the third time of this exchange, from the back seat we hear a very serious, growly baby-bass sing "Yeah" along with the Cd. It was quite amusing.

That same weekend, Jack learned "Old MacDonald Had a Farm"--namely the E-i-e-i-o part. But for some reason, he did not (and still doesn't) get the "O." He sings only e-i-e-i-e-i over and over again. (He does occasionally throw in some animal noises, though.)

Since then, we have heard him sing along to "Lime in the Coconut," as sung the Muppets. When they sing, "Doctor!" he yells "Do-to!"
Flaming Lips, "The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song"--If you haven't heard this song, they sing "yeah yeah yeah" throughout the song. As soon as the song starts (with "yeah yeah yeah yeah") he starts repeating "yeah yeah" until the song is over. (Not necessarily in time, though.)

The Beatles, "She Said, She Said"--There are scattered places in the song where Lennon says "no no (no)." Of course, Jack walks around singing "No no no no no no."
