Today's Well Dressed Child

Kate came across an article in Sunday's Free Press that said the average cost of raising a child (to age 17) now is $200,000. For babies, the author of the article says to "budget $125 for baby formula." Well that seems pretty close to how much we paid when Jack was on formula. "Figure $125 a month for diapers." Okay, maybe that's a little high, but reasonably close. But then, we should "count on $175 a month for new baby clothes." What?! Okay, I'm sure the very wealthy spend that much, but this is the "average" cost. Even if we were to count the cost of the clothes that Jack received as gifts or hand-me-downs, we wouldn't come anywhere close to this figure. By my calculations we should have already spent $2800 on his clothes.
I think the outfit Jack had on yesterday probably cost six, maybe eight dollars from Target--shirt and shorts.
