Getting Back to Normal

In case anyone was wondering, yes our power came back on. It came back on sometime Tuesday (afternoon?) while were all away. We lost almost everything in our fridge and some of the stuff in the fridge's freezer. Luckily, mostly everything in our deep freeze (a lot of beef and whole chickens) was still frozen. There were just a couple of things on top that thawed. Since the power came back on while we were gone, they re-froze so I threw them out just to be safe. Actually, I spent most of Wednesday cleaning out the fridge, assessing what we had to buy, etc. But I really can't complain since some people up here were without power for much longer than us. And it did not flood or we did not have water seep into our basement. It was mostly just a pain and a tad disorienting.

Actually, the most annoying part about the whole power outage? We were one of the few houses in the neighborhood without a generator. Kate described the constant sound of generators running as a motorcycle rally. It reminded me of a tractor show with all the little gas engines running. Either way, it was really noisy. One of our neighbors actually had the gall to use the generator to run their sprinklers. Never mind that it had been raining almost constantly for three days, but isn't there a better use for the gas they were wasting? I think it may have been the same neighbor that mows his own lawn and has a professional company come do it--in the same week.
