The Detroit Zoo with the Rousts.

As mentioned in the previous post, the Rousts came to visit this weekend. We had originally planned on going to the zoo on Saturday, but we were rained out. As it turned out, it was probably a good omen as Sunday was absolutely gorgeous.
Jack is becoming an old pro at going to the zoo and had a great time. The only drawback was riding the train. We figured Jack would get a big kick out of it (which he did) but you have to stand in line forever ( 35? 40 minutes?) to ride it. And then you get to see...fences and golfers. Why have a train at the zoo if you don't get to see animals? That's not completely true. We did see one lonely Alpaca. And some sparrows.
Anyway, we still had a great time.
What were Jack's favorite parts of the zoo?
1. The giraffes. They are far and away his favorite animal.
2. The big "Cats." (See below for why I put it in quotes.)
3. The penguins. (Mumbles, as he calls them. You know, from Happy Feet?)
4. The golf carts the staff rides around in ("Go-Cars" as Jack calls them).
5. The peacocks that roam around everywhere.
Me: Look Jack! A Gorilla!
Jack: I see peacock!
Me: Look Jack! A flaming hippopotamus and an albino zebra riding a motorcycle!
Jack: I see peacock!

Jack and me waiting in line for the train.
My two favorite people in the world.

I somehow managed to get no pictures of Amy this weekend, but I did get a good one of Colin and Elle. (And how did we not get any family pictures?)

You know what? Rhino butt.

A giraffe coming to say hello. (Jack is still talking about this.)

Explorer Jack finding the sea lions. Or seals. Or whatever they were.

Our intrepid explorers nearing the end of their adventures.

Here are the "Cats" (that's Caterpillars for those of you not familiar with bulldozers) that Jack was so excited about. Really, how do you explain to a two-year old who's obsessed with vehicles that construction equipment is not a normal part of the zoo? Next to the giraffes, this was easily is favorite part of the day. He will be disappointed when we go back and they are gone.

I didn't mention it in the post, but you may notice Jack had a costume change during the day...

I did notice that I also notice with the hat and glasses you are trying to make a "mini me" for yourself. I am wait for you to pencil in a little gotee for him.

Kate is all about trying to make Jack a mini-me. What you can't see in the picture are the blue Chuck Taylor's we are both wearing...

Brilliant as long as that terrible yellow plaid flannel doesn't come back I think it will be fine.
