"I Peed-ed in the Potty!"--Jack

Yup. Four of the last five nights actually. Kate and I were in no hurry to start potty training Jack, but it seems it is going to start happening. But slowly.

Jack "graduated" this week to the next higher class, where they apparently start potty training them. (Most of the students in the school are graduating as they are reorganizing the classes. Jack was originally going to be in his current room for four more months.) At first I was rather miffed, but I guess they don't force them. And they didn't tell us we had to do it at home. All they do is set them on a toilet for every diaper change, which isn't so bad. I've heard about other daycares where it's enforced, regardless of what the parents want.

Plus, in the past two weeks Jack has shown a lot of interest in the bathroom and has been very vocal about his, uh, waste manufacturing. So, we bought him an Elmo potty adapter thingy and away we go! Really all we are doing now is setting him on it at night before his bath. We figure in a couple of weeks or so we will start in earnest.

It would be kind of nice to get him potty trained before Peanut arrives...

Speaking of being annoyed at the daycare...
For the most part, we really like the day care that Jack goes to. He loves going there, and they seem to really love him. Yes, they do some bizarre things. Yes, some of them are lousy interacting with the adults, but great with the kids. (I could probably devote an entire post to their apparent dislike of fathers...) But in the spectrum of daycares, I think we are pretty lucky.

Still, today was their end-of-the-summer party and a celebration of a lot of the students graduating, as mentioned above. I don't mind that they gave them cupcakes. The ice cream...overkill for a toddler, but okay, it does make cupcakes more tasty. The cotton candy, though? Seriously, they gave toddlers cupcakes, ice cream, and cotton candy and then sent them home to their parents.

Needless to say, Jack was a complete wreck.

In other news I am not teaching this semester. I found out this afternoon, and classes start next Wednesday. It's a long story that I can't really blog about. All I can say is that there are some people in this world who are just plain not nice.
