Driving through a Global Warming Wonderland

We are 2/3 of a way through our Holiday fun. Except for the funky weather (and driving in it) we are having a very good time. Our travels started a day late because of all the snow and ice Tuesday night. It was still bad (and scary) driving Wednesday morning, but we made it to Kate's family okay.

We had Christmas with all of Kate's family Christmas Eve. The most entertaining part was when the power went out during the gift exchange. We had to open gifts by candlelight with the help of some flashlights. It was rather entertaining. When we had enough light to see, we discovered that Jack was walking around with a movie that he had not opened as a present. Nobody claimed it, but when Kate's dad came back in the room he said that it was a present for Kate's mom--that she hadn't opened, yet. The rustling we heard while the lights were out apparently came from Jack rustling through gift bags. I had taken a picture while the lights were out using the night-vision feature on my camera. If I had looked closely at the picture when I took it, I would have noticed that I had caught Jack in the act.
The paper to his right came out of the bag to his left, which had held the present. He's such a sneaky boy.

Yesterday morning, we drove to North Vernon to spend the day with my mom. During the 2.5 hour drive down we drove through sunshine (for five minutes), freezing rain, high wind, and a thunderstorm with near-flood conditions. Since we had driven through snow earlier in the week, I mentioned that we had driven through about every weather condition possible. And to prove me wrong, last night we drove through extremely dense fog on the way to my Dad's house.

Jack seems to have (mostly) received what he wanted for Christmas. Earlier this week, I asked him what Santa was going to bring him. Jack said he wanted, "A car. A black one. A truck for the basement. A mouthy car. And the Alex movie (Madagascar)."
Except for the mouthy car, he received the rest of it. And then some. Now we just have to figure out where to put it. What is mouthy car? Well...it's a matchbox car in which the body raises up. That's about the best way I can explain it.

Pictures of the week to follow.
