A New (Unfortunate) Word

One of my favorite parts of being a parent his hearing a new word and then hearing it used correctly. But Thursday afternoon, Amelie whipped out one of the words I dreaded Jack and her learning. I was trying to rock her to sleep, but she really did not want to take a nap. Amidst her crying, she gave me a dirty look and exclaimed, "Nu nu nu nu nu!" That she was telling me "No!" was very clear. At first I thought maybe it was a coincidence, but she proved me wrong since then.

Put her down when she wants to be held? "Nu nu nu nu nu!"

Try to change her diaper when she is playing? "Nu nu nu nu nu!"

Not give her a bottle the instant she wants it? "Nu nu nu nu nu!"

Yesterday morning, she even threw in a "Nu nu nu nu nu, Da Da!" Again, I thought it was coincidence until last night Kate was changing her diaper and she clearly belted out a "Nu nu nu nu nu, Ma Ma!"

I was hoping for a little longer before she started talking back. Now I get it from both Jack and her!

Of course, a close second for this week was when Kate inadvertently taught Jack the phrase, "Quit whining and suck it up, Daddy."

Nu nu nu is funny. "Suck it up, Daddy" is priceless.

Oh my. Kiddie backtalk. I hate to tell you, but it gets even worse as they get bigger. ;)
