Just in time for us to go on another weekend trip--to Kate's family in Greenville, OH--I am finally getting around to writing about our Labor Day excursion.
We decided that the three-day weekend would be a good time for Jack to take the somewhat long trip down to Greensburg, my hometown in Southern Indiana. On a good traffic day, stopping only for gas, I can make it in a little over 4.5 hours. Up to last weekend, Jack's longest time in the car was 3.5 hours, and he screamed the last half hour.
So we started out last week, a good hour and a half later than planned--now there is a story for a future blog posting. Jack did really well the first bit. An hour and a half into the trip, we stopped at Steak n' Shake to eat and give Jack a bottle. Jack's opinion of this fine dining establishment became abundantly clear when he had a nice projectile spit-up all over himself, mommy, and nearly on the waiter's shoes. Chris the waiter received a very nice tip.
Jack did really well for the next three hours or so, but then he decided he was done being in the car. We had to pull over for a while in the thriving metropolis of Rushville to let him stretch. He was not happy to get back into the car seat, but he tolerated it the final twenty minutes. We finally arrived at my (paternal) Grandma Weber's house a little before midnight where an anxious grandmother was still awake and waiting.
On Saturday we went to visit my (maternal) Grandma Maxwell's house. She had yet to meet Jack, so it was indeed a treat for all of us. After a long afternoon we left, only to turn around a little down the road when we saw my mom with my Uncle Jim and Aunt Phyllis.
We eventually returned to my Grandma Weber's where we had to prepare for the craziness of the next day. Sunday is when Jack got meet my Dad's crazy family. I use "crazy" in the most loving sense. Maybe "baby-crazy" would be a better way to put it.
No, crazy will do just fine. To Be Continued...

It's good you don't have family in the U.P.--for various reasons, but the first that came to mind was the 10 hour drive. I guess that would mean that Jack had to wait longer to meet the family or that it would've been a worse car trip.
Cute pics as usual!!
Hi Joe,
Found that yre. blogging from Mich. Hope things are well for you. I'm not playing trumpet anymore, but I did go on to IU and earned a master's in musicology. I write about music constantly now. Hope the Washtenaw job is fun.
