Good Eats

Jack discovered how tasty sweet foods can be last week. The "official" new food last week was applesauce. (Every Friday, he gets to start a new food for the week.) He has liked all of the food we have given him so far, but he really enjoyed the appley-goodness. For the first time with a food, he seemed genuinely distraught when the bowl was empty. But just when he thought food could not get any more yummy, I broke the rules a wee bit. He is supposed to have only one new food a week--to ensure he has no allergies--and dairy products are off-limits until he is a year old. (Kate questions whether Cool Whip is truly a dairy product.) But the other night I was lick...er, cleaning out the Cool Whip Bowl (I have a weakness for whipped cream. Pumpkin Pie is merely a vehicle for the whipped goodness in a bowl.) and Jack, who I was holding, was watching me very intently. I sneaked him a tiny taste and his eyes doubled in size. I took another bite for myself and, while swallowing, I looked down at Jack. He had his mouth wide open and a hurt look on his face. He seemed to be thinking, "Daddy! That was my bite." I gave him another little taste, and Kate was able to get a couple pictures of him enjoying his treat. He was very disappointed when I took another bite and did not give him any more. That's my boy!
By the way, I intend to scan some pictures of me from when I was a baby to put on the blog. Jack's resemblance to Baby Joe is a tad eerie.
