His motivation was to get to his high chair. He really likes to cruise around it and "work" on it. I guess he decided that he really wanted it, so it was worth figuring out how a step works. You can see from the picture that he was very excited. (By the time I got the camera, he had moved to the nearby stool.)

One Small Step for Baby, One Giant Pain for Daddykind
As I mentioned in the previous post, the days of accomplishing much are over. Why? Well, up until last week, Jack was more or less confined to the living room. As you can see in the picture, below, to escape he would have to first master the step.
If I needed to get something done, say blogging for instance, he could roam around while I kept an eye on him. Even when I would take him into another room with me, he would stick pretty close. But apparently, figuring out how to escape from the living room made him a brave little boy. And now he is all over the first floor of our house.
As if the highchair was not motivation enough, his new found skill allowed him to chase after Clara.
And organize the Tupperware cabinet.
And explore the foyer. (His new favorite place to play. I swear we spend at least half the day out there everyday, now.)
He immediately set his sights on a more challenging climb. Time for the baby gate!
And if you notice, he is in the same pajamas for all of these pictures. This was just the first hour or so of his new found freedom.
