Birthday Boy--The Party

Kate and I have always contended that birthday parties for Jack would be small affairs without a huge crowd and much fuss. Riiiiight (say in Dr. Evil's voice).

So Jack's party ended up having a fairly large crowd (23?) and a fair amount of fuss. Actually, it was really only our immediate family and our closest friends (that live around here). But we do seem to have a large family.

Anyway, a fun time was had by all, I think. Kate's sister and her family stayed with us for the weekend and my Dad, Step-mom, and brothers were in town until Sunday. Jack was very well-behaved for the party and avoided any meltdowns. (The week since has been another story.) He received a lot of nice gifts, including a fancy wagon that I managed to assemble incorrectly. Ahem.

For the ritual first birthday (let's watch the baby make a huge mess and laugh) cake he had a white cupcake with vanilla icing. My dainty son very carefully plucked the icing off the top and made a minimal mess. When the icing was gone he was very disappointed to find that there was cake underneath and not more icing. I have a video but I am having difficulties posting it. I will try to get it on here as soon as I figure out what is wrong. For now, here are some pictures.
That is Elmo on the cake. Yes Kate, you did a nice job for your first attempt at decorating a cake.
Here are a couple of "Where's Waldo" shots in which I managed to get most of the people at the party in the picture.
