Wine Country

On Wednesday we went for a (short) drive up Old Mission Peninsula to visit a winery and see the Old Mission Lighthouse. Although we drove until we came to this sign...

unbelievably we did not get lost.

Apparently, the climate soil or whatever in northern Michigan is conducive to growing grapes for wine, so there are a lot of wineries. Since visiting wineries would not be terribly interesting to a fifteen-month old, we decided to visit only one. We chose to stop by Bowers Harbor Vineyard, since there website was the only one that said to "Bring the kids!" In the end it was a good choice as they had very tasty wine. I probably spent more than I should have, but...it was really tasty.
Here is the view from the tasting room at the vineyard

The fumes from the wine must have gotten to Jack...

After the winery, we drove the rest of the way up the peninsula to look at the lighthouse.

The lighthouse was not terribly exciting. You are not allowed in it, since someone lives there or uses it as an office or something like that. Pretty much, you just point at it and go, "Oooooh, a lighthouse."
But it was fun to wander around the beach , which Jack actually enjoyed since it was mostly rocks and hard packed sand.

Vacationing with toddler is a tad bit of work and not terribly restful, but we still had fun!
